Address:
335 Noda, Noda City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan
A spot where historical buildings have been revitalized, blending local culture with youthful creativity. Various creators are active here, including shops and shared kitchens.
The Reason for the Launch of the Former Nakamura Store (NPO Non-Profit Organization Noda Townscape Cultural Creators)
As times change, buildings transition from old to new. In Noda, there are few, yet treasured buildings and vacant houses filled with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. We established an organization to promote preservation and revitalization activities to pass them on to future generations.
Organization's Guideline
To make it a place where the joy of creation can be shared with local residents and those from outside the region through exhibitions and workshops by creators. Furthermore, to promote Noda city tourism by launching events in collaboration with local stores and businesses.
NPO Activities
The three study rooms of the Former Nakamura Store are available as rental spaces (for creator exhibitions, photo shoots, events, etc.). By attracting exhibitors to '335 Banchi (District)' and drawing in people from inside and outside Noda, it connects to regional revitalization.
We also participate in shopping district festivals, using the proceeds for building repairs.
History of the Former Nakamura Store
Nakamura Kumajiro Store (Ootaya) operated as an inn and, at the same time, engaged in coal sales from the Meiji to Taisho periods.
Around Taisho 6 (1917), they also began handling fertilizers, growing into a coal and fertilizer business with a wide trading area beyond Noda Town.
According to a coal purchase ledger from Taisho 6, they procured coal sourced from Joban coal mines, among others, from mining companies such as Furukawa Partnership and Iriyamatsu Mining Corporation. This was sold to various soy sauce breweries in the town, including Noda Soy Sauce Co., and to places like Matsudo, Fukama (Sakaecho), Toride, Moriya, Mitsukaido, Kasukabe, Niiza, Kuki, Kurihashi, and Maebashi.
Regarding fertilizer, they purchased various types like fish meal, rice bran, soybean meal, superphosphate of lime, and ammonium sulfate from companies like Dainippon Artificial Fertilizer Co. and fertilizer merchants in Hakodate, Akita, Saitama, and Shimonoseki, selling them to neighboring rural villages.

Tadashi Moro Exhibition
Tadashi Moro was born in 1933 in Senju, Adachi City, Tokyo. He is one of the founding members of the Noda Manga Club and was the final apprentice of Botten Shimokawa(*1). Since childhood, he contributed to 'Manga Shonen' and continued pursuing a professional career by submitting to comic magazines like 'Shonen Gaho' and 'Tankai'. During middle school, he belonged to the art club, where his inherent interest in drawing led him to create manga, resulting in his unique style of crafting each panel with detailed precision as art. Around 1957, he noticed an advertisement for the auxiliary motor 'Cub' attached to Honda's bicycles, turned it into a manga, and sent it to the company. This led to him serializing the commercial manga 'Honda-Motor-san' in 'Weekly Yomiuri'. Later, upon the request of Gakken, he serialized '6-chan' in 'Gakken's Learning for Sixth Year Students', featuring a sixth-grade student as the protagonist. Moro specializes in one-panel and four-panel manga, and in 1966, he represented Japan at the 'Modern World Manga Exhibition', organized by the International Cultural Exchange Association for Publishing Arts alongside Shimokawa. In 1974, he won the top prize for his nominee in the 'Bright and Correct Election Enlightenment Manga', collected nationwide by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (merged with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in 2001) and the Public Election Alliance. In recent years, at age 91, he continues his creative activities, including annual illustrations of the zodiac for the New Year's edition of the Noda City Report. (*1) Botten Shimokawa was born in 1892 on Miyako Island, Okinawa Prefecture. He was the apprentice of Rakuten Kitazawa, considered Japan's first professional cartoonist, and founding figure of 'Manga Kingdom', launched in February 1937.
